HISTORY WITH HONOR FLIGHT MAINE: My Dad went on a flight in October 2023 with my brother as his guardian. I and several family members attended the send-off and welcome home ceremony. We were all so pleasantly overwhelmed with the organization that I wanted to become a volunteer. During my time volunteering, as I got to know other volunteers and the Board members, my interest in the organization continued to grow which led me to wanting to take on a leadership role.
WHY AM I PASSIONATE ABOUT HONOR FLIGHT MAINE: The organization’s commitment to honoring our veteran’s is remarkable. The common goal is obvious in all interactions. I have been devoted to community service for many years but I’m particular about which organizations I support. Honor Flight Maine has impressed me from the very first interaction of the phone call with Crystal getting my Dad signed up to the most recent flight. I have enjoyed every minute of meeting the veteran’s, guardians, and other volunteers.
FAVORITE HONOR FLIGHT MAINE MEMORIES: My Dad was very nervous about going on a flight. My siblings and I thought he would back out at the last minute but he did not! To see his smile during the welcome home ceremony despite him being physically exhausted was very special. He still brings out his book with photos from the trip whenever he has visitors and tells everyone what a wonderful adventure he had. I want to be a part of those adventures and memories for other veterans.
